Abstract

Abstract

The seals made in the new Assyrian period in linear style were formed by the processing of soft materials such as serpentine soapstone, marble, limestone with pointed tools such as hand-held stone-masonry. These seals are depicted mainly as topics of a feast, the tree of life, war, struggle. The lower and upper sides of the seal are bordered by a demarcation line so that the subjects show an integrity. Besides the main subject, filling motifs such as halibut, writing pen, eye lozenge, fish, scorpion, bird, etc.are engraved in this restricted area. It is also engraved on the seals along with the symbols of Gods and Goddesses. Cylinder seals with long dimensions are made earlier than shorter ones. For example, cylinder seals made in Assurnasirpal II period are longer than cylin-der seals made in later periods
