Abstract

Sipend/üzerlik, ilkçağdan bu yana bilinen, Sümer, Hitit, Hint, Yunan, Roma ve Türk olmak üzere birçok uygarlık tarafından çeşitli fiziksel ve ruhsal hastalıkların tedavisinde kullanılan bir tarım bitkisidir. Bu bitki genel kullanımıyla Türkçe, Farsça ve Arapça birçok adlandırmaya sahiptir. Abstract

Harmal seed is a agricultural plant which has been known since the early ages and also used in treatment of physical and psychiatric disorders by several civilisation such as sumerian, hittite, indian, greek, roman and turkish. As a general use this plant has a lot of naming in Turkish, Persian and Arabic. With the belief of protecting from death, disease, malignancy and spell this plant is commonly used in folk medicine. However it is mainly noted for evil eye and incense in Turkish culture and literature. While in folk literature the plant is mentioned as “y/üzerlik”, in texts of Divan literature its name only takes part as “sipend”.
