Abstract
Tarih boyunca insanlar bir takım unsurlara değer biçmiş ve yüceltmiştir. İnsanlar tarafından değeri arttırılan bu metalar ayrıcalık unsuru olarak kullanılmış, sadece zenginlerin ve aristokrat kesimin ulaşabildiği değerler olmuştur. Birçoğunun zaman içinde bollaşması neticesinde sıradanlaşarak halkın her kesiminin ulaşabildiği unsurlara dönüşmüştür. Bu çalışmada bu değerlerden ikisi olan şeker ve porselen üzerinde durulmuştur. Şeker kamışından elde edilen sakarozun tanınmaya başlanmasıyla birlikte, sınırlı bir üretimin söz konusu olmasından dolayı herkesin ulaşamayacağı bir noktaya konumlanmıştır. Varlıklı kişilerin ulaşabildiği şeker zaman içinde sofra dekorasyonlarında yerini almış, süreç içerisinde çabuk bozulması, masraflı olması gibi nedenlerden dolayı yerini porselen sofra düzenlemelerine bırakmıştır. Bunun yanında bahsedilen sofra düzenlemelerinden esinlenen sanatçı Bouke De Vries’in “Savaş ve Parçalar (War and Pieces)” adlı eseri ele alınmıştır.

Abstract
Throughout history, people have valued and glorified certain elements. These commodities, whose value was increased by people, were used as an element of privilege, and they were values that only the rich and aristocrats could reach. As a result of the abundance of many of them over time, they have become ordinary and turned into elements that can be reached by every segment of society. In this study, two of these values, sugar and porcelain, were emphasized. With the introduction of sucrose obtained from sugar cane, it has been positioned at a point where it cannot be reached by everyone due to the limited production. The sugar, which wealthy people could reach, took its place in table decorations over time, and it was replaced by porcelain tableware arrangements due to reasons such as rapid deterioration in the process and costly. In addition to this, the work named "War and Pieces" by the artist Bouke De Vries, who was inspired by the table decorations mentioned, was discussed.
